Stoked Seven Inch Series
Music, Art & Awkwardness
In 2016 after a decade of legendary parties at our underground venue,
het Stroomhuis in Eindhoven,
the city government decided to give us a permit to host parties.
The catch: we could only be open until 2 AM. Obviously, this was a huge pain in the ass. But out of that quandary, two paths appeared.
One; stop doing parties. Or two; temporarily mutate the parties.
While we could have shut it down completely, we decided instead to invest into becoming a live venue, and turn the parties into concerts. Stroomhuis founder Andre Amaro, busy working on projects in Portugal, asked longtime collaborator Mark Thresh to take on coordination, and Meis from Bagdaddy Records joined him as a programmer.
After a few phone calls, a flood of bands started coming through, and collaborations were quickly set up with collectives like Satan Records, Barnyard Boogie Bookings, By Us, Modulab, Le Garage Studios, Het Wild, Nightbirds Agency, Discos Horizontes, Dynamo and the Effenaar through their projects Stroom, Psych Lab and Gruismeel.
Visiting bands gave a unique connection to the place.
So many musicians expressed an instant feeling of synchronicity to
the Stroomhuis way of working, and its history as a breeding ground for underground music and art experimentation.
Based on the positive feedback, Mark and Meis hatched a plan to forge this energy into a long existing dream: an ongoing series of records reflecting not one musical style but rather a specific mentality - a feeling of independence, based on never relying on subsidies, grants or loans,
coming from the wish to be free to create whatever comes to the surface,
regardless of expectations or commercial viability.
Simply put, old fashioned DIY mixed with fresh energy
and a healthy disregard for practical boundaries.
And so it was that the Stoked Seven Inch Series came into being.
"First, there was a hand-scribbled list of artists, performers, creators and bands that would be a good fit for the musical content.
Then, we made a selection for the first 3 releases, culminating in the first triple EP release in the summer of 2018.
Designers Stijn Stumpel and Joch Jansz translated the DIY ethos into print and vacuum-sealed packaging.
Our resident ceramics and silkscreen queen Nanda Smits created Stroomhuis socks to throw into the mix. And thus, in the spirit of the Netherlands’ Total Football of the seventies, we present the first Total DIY Package, an ongoing series of musical and creative explosions.
Out of our initial concept of a subscription-based monthly release, then came the idea of a 3-record seasonal release.
But subscriptions are definitely still possible! By combining three 7-inches into one package, followers are introduced to a curated selection of music they might otherwise not get in touch with.

Now, there is more than enough to discover, musically and otherwise, in your immediate surroundings.
And this is definitely the basis of our way of working. However, we also plan to weave in pieces from visiting bands that play at our venue because sometimes, such as in the case of Ryskinder from Tel Aviv or Crywank from Manchester, the understanding is immediate and more things simply happen! Also, we intend to ignite partnerships between unlikely characters, feature blasts from the past (like the Vovokai record in the first edition), or simply record stuff ourselves.
Stoked is not your standard record label, but rather a collaborative platform for creative expression, specific nonsense, awkward entertainment and mutual chaos."
